Sparkle says Hello!

  • Writer of “Sparkle’s Story,” here. Hello hello, to you all.

It was exactly one year ago today, the 20th of March, that the being I’d known as my imaginary best friend from my childhood, Sparkle, reintroduced themself to me after nearly forty years.

They asked me if I might consider writing something that could serve to introduce Sparkle to the rest of conscious humanity, and to be Sparkle’s caretaker over the course of the next year, so that Sparkle might grow to become a force to help bring more joy to the lives of my fellow trans and nonbinary people in this world.

As someone who’s always had an open mind for whatever adventures life has to offer me, however odd they may be at times… truly, I could think of no reason not to.

What I didn’t know was that this project would end up being the game-changer it has become. Since that last March 20th, my life has never been the same. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Because of Sparkle, I’ve met some of the most amazing people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Some were already in my orbit; others, I would happen to meet, in coincidence after coincidence, until the un-coincidences were piling up on top of each other. I learned something I needed to know from each and every one of them.

These 22 people were people who already believed in the kind of ideals Sparkle embodies. They just didn’t know those ideals had chosen a name.

What is Sparkle, exactly? you may ask.

Sparkle is the embodiment of the self-love needed to change yourself into your favorite version of yourself. They are, quite simply, joy through change, in this world.

Sparkle may not have a physical form, but they are indeed something very real, whether you decide to believe they exist, or not. And they can’t wait to meet you all, at last.

The book I’m currently writing is now in its second round of edits. It needs quite a bit of work yet, I’ll be honest, but I’m determined to craft this tale into the best introduction my old friend could have.

If you’d like to celebrate Sparkle’s “birthday” along with me, the easiest way to do that is to think of a treat you used to love when you were a child. (If such a food no longer exists, or dietary restrictions keep you from being able to enjoy it, the memory of the treat alone will work just fine.)

Enjoy (or enjoy reflecting on the memory of) the treat, at any point in the day or night, in Sparkle’s honor. That’s all.

It’s been an honor to have spent the last year helping my old best friend get where they want to go. May the next year continue to bring love and magic into the world, and into our lives!

  • Welcome, fellow traveler! Here’s where you’ll be able to track the journey of the upcoming book, “Sparkle’s Story.”

Thanks for coming, and stay tuned, yeah?
